Residence Permit & Visa

About Visa

It is highly recommended that you apply for a student visa before coming to Turkey. You can apply with your “Letter of Acceptance” from Medipol University and a completed visa application form at the nearest Turkish Consulate in your country.

Students wishing to study at Medipol University are required to visit the nearest Turkish Consulate in their home country to acquire a student visa. Upon arrival in Turkey, the Residence Permit process will begin. Students must apply to the "T.C. İçişleri Bakanlığı – Göç İdaresi Genel Müdürlüğü" in Turkey to obtain it. The International Office will assist students step-by-step with the process. In other words, a student visa is required to register as a student in Turkey. Exceptions apply to those who are legal dependents of individuals in Turkey on a diplomatic or work visa.

Before coming to Turkey, students should take their Letters of Acceptance to the nearest Turkish Consulate in their home country to obtain a student visa. Afterward, students will be provided with a Residence Permit (İkamet Belgesi), which will be valid for the duration of their studies at AMU, as indicated on their Student Visa.

If your country is not exempt from the visa requirement by the Republic of Turkey, ordinary passport holders must obtain a visa to enter Turkey. However, some countries are exempt from applying for a Turkish visa. To learn about the visa regime applied by Turkey to your country, please check the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website: http://www.mfa.gov.tr/visa-information-for-foreigners.en.mfa. Those who need to apply for a student visa must make an online appointment via www.visa.gov.tr.

Key points for receiving a student visa:

  • Student visas must be obtained from the nearest Turkish Consulate in your country.
  • Student visas cannot be obtained within Turkey.
  • You must apply for a student visa with your “Letter of Acceptance” from Ankara Medipol University and a completed visa application form.
  • Residence Permit applications are processed at İstanbul – İl Göç İdaresi Müdürlüğü. For more detailed information, visit http://www.goc.gov.tr/main/Tr_1.

Prepare the required documents:
It is crucial to note that you cannot apply for an E-visa as a student, as this is only available for tourists. Therefore, student visa applications must be carried out through Turkish Representatives. According to the Law for International Students, those arriving in Turkey after January 1, 2015, are required to provide a passport (or equivalent document) valid for at least 60 days beyond the expiration of their visa.

Required Documents after your arrival:

  • Original signed “Learning Agreement”
  • Copy of your ID or passport
  • 6 photos (4 biometric format)
  • Biometric photo
  • Authorization from parents/custodians (for students under 18)
  • Acceptance Letter (Available online via an application program. MEDIPOL will not send a hardcopy of the acceptance letter. The list of accepted students has been sent to the Turkish Embassies and Consulates, so please ask the officials to check your name. If additional confirmation is needed, you may contact us. Graduate students should contact the Graduate School for their acceptance letters.)
  • Income statement / Sponsorship letter
  • Additional documents (Citizen ID, passport and its copy, diplomas, health insurance, visa form, visa fees, etc.)

Please note that during registration at Medipol, you must have a valid visa. If your visa has expired, you must have either a valid entry stamp in your passport or a residence permit. The maximum duration allowed to stay in Turkey with your student visa, without a residence permit, varies by country. Ensure that you apply for a residence permit before your maximum duration ends. Additionally, visas issued by Turkish authorities are valid for 180 days, meaning you must enter Turkey within 180 days of your visa issuance.

As an international student, you will need to apply for a student residence permit.

We recommend coming to Turkey with a student visa, as this will simplify processes such as obtaining an equivalence letter and residence permit. However, if you encounter difficulties in obtaining a student visa, you may also enter Turkey with a tourist visa or an e-visa. Please refer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs webpage for more detailed information.

Health Insurance

The students who are the citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany, Holland, Belgium, Austria, France, Macedonia, Romania, The Czech Republic, Bosnia Herzegovina, Albania, Luxemburg, Croatia, and Serbia have to acquire a document concerning Health Insurance in order to carry out their insurance policy in Turkey. As for the other students whose countries are not mentioned above, they have to carry out their Health Insurance when they come to Turkey within the first 3 months in the institution entitled SGK or they can do it with private institutions as well. As International Office, we will always provide help to students in this matter about instructions and steps of the process.
